Very excited to hear the news that the International Surfing Association (ISA) has selected Jaco to host this years ISA World Surfing Games. The ISA World Surfing Games is an Olympic-style team competition that features National Surfing Teams consisting of up to four men and two women. This is the second time Costa Rica is hosting the event, 2009 had Jaco's neighboring beach of Hermosa host the competition that year. Logistically Jaco will be much better adapt to support the large crowds. An estimated 100,000 visitors came in 2009 and 2016 expects to be even bigger. The Costa Rica National surf team will look to repeat its gold medal performance of 2015 in Nicaragua, with a big home crowd they should be the clear favorites to win consecutive titles. The games will be held August 6-14, 2016. If you are interested in making a trip to the Games we encourage you to make Jaco accommodations quickly!
The 2009 Games in Hermosa saw huge crowds, we expect a crazy week in Jaco this year!
